Using Microsoft Teams for Instant Messaging on your phone
Installing Microsoft Teams
Download and install Microsoft Teams from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store onto your mobile device and sign in.
After signing in, you'll land on the home page. Notice both your profile icon in the top left corner of your phone's display and also the icon strip that runs along the bottom of your screen which includes access to your Teams messages, called Chats.
Check your Notifications Settings
Touch your profile picture to bring up the options menu and select Notifications.
Ensure that your Notifications are set to either 'All Activity' or 'Chats and Calls'. You'll also need to check your phone's notification settings to ensure you are notified when receiving a Teams message. On an iPhone you can do this by navigating to Settings > Teams.
Sending Messages
To send a message, open your Teams app and touch the Chats icon at the bottom of your phone's display.
In the Chats menu, you can see a history of all your messages you've sent via Teams. Touch the purple New Chat button floating above the icon strip to start a new message.
Begin typing the names of any staff you wish to message. In my example, I've added two of my colleagues. Notice that the name of the chat has now changed to their names. You can access more options and settings for your group chat by clicking the 'i' icon in the top right hand corner of the active chat window.
Chat Options and Renaming your Group Chat
Tap the 'i' icon from your active chat window. You can now see a list of all people involved in your chat and edit or change other settings for this chat.
Tap 'Name group chat' to rename your chat to something more descriptive. This is especially useful for larger group chats.
