Set up Touch ID on MacOS and iPad
Set up Touch ID on MacOS
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Touch ID & Password in the sidebar (You may need to scroll down). If you are using an iPad, navigate to Settings > Touch ID & Password.
- Click Add Fingerprint, enter your password, then follow the on-screen instructions.
If your Mac or Magic Keyboard has Touch ID, the sensor is located in the top-right corner of your keyboard. You can add up to three fingerprints to your user account (you can save up to five fingerprints on your Mac).
-
You may wish to enable Touch ID to allow the following:
Unlock your Mac: Use Touch ID to unlock this Mac when you wake it from sleep.
Autofill passwords: Use Touch ID to automatically fill in usernames and passwords to automatically fill in credit card information when requested using Safari and other apps.
Fast user switching: Use Touch ID to switch between user account on this Mac.
Set up Touch ID on iPad
- Make sure the Touch ID sensor and your finger are clean and dry.
- Tap Settings > TouchID & Passcode, then enter your passcode.
- Tap Add a Fingerprint and hold your device as you normally would when touching the Touch ID sensor.
- Touch the Touch ID sensor with your finger - but don't press - so the device can start recognising your fingerprint. Hold your finger there until you feel a quick vibration, or until you're asked to life your finger.
- Continue to life and rest your finger slowly, making small adjustments to the positions of your finger each time.
- The next screen will ask you to adjust your grip. Hold your device as you normally would when unlocking it, and touch the Touch ID sensor with the outer areas of your fingertip, instead of the centre position that you scanned first.
